Tony Griffith of the The Griffith Family has shown over the past few years that not only is there a talent for singing with The Griffith Family, but Tony also has a talent for producing and picking songs. The Griffith Family’s recording of the song, “I’m Gonna Leave The Light On” from their ‘Give His Love Away’ album has populated the Singing News Top 80 chart as well as nearing the Affirm Southern Gospel Radio Top 20 (The Singing News is the largest Christian Music publication in the country).

The song was written over 16 years ago by Toni Jolene Clay and John Mathis. They had met for a writing session to actually finish up a son they had previously started. John was the minister at a small church at the time, he opened and closed up the church building for service and was the last one to turn the lights off before he left… this sparked the concept of the song. Toni and John began talking about “leaving the light on” when you left the church building on Sunday, so they began to write “I’m Gonna Leave The Light On”. The song was actually was recorded shortly thereafter by the legendary The Florida Boys on one of the last albums before Glen Alred and Les Beasley retired.

Now almost 18 years later The Griffith Family recorded their own version the song, with a different twist.
